Cirba, McCartha win school committee post

EAST BROOKFIELD - Two Spencer representatives to the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional District School committee won seats over third candidate Jennifer J. Gaucher in the only contest on East Brookfield’s election ballot.

A total 116 of the town’s 1,486 registered voters turned out to vote for Robert J. Cirba, with 68 votes, and Matthew McCarthy, who garnered 88 votes. Gaucher finished a distant third with 30 votes.

There were no candidates for a three-year slot on the finance committee, and a three year opening on the library board of trustees had no takers. Additionally, a three-year term as constable remains unfilled.

According to Town Clerk Virginia Allen, write-in elections to those posts will be announced if they are accepted and sufficient votes for any candidate are on the ballot.

The Town meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, the following night, could not be reported in print by press time.
