WEST BROOKFIELD - The sun
shone in the backyard of West Brookfield Elementary School, where tables
bearing an assortment of things you never knew you needed were set up, their
proprietors doing a brisk business on a recent Saturday.
Nearby, the Gallagher girls
were conducting a bake sale for the West Brookfield Elementary School Daisy
Scout Troop.
Inside the school, the gym
was filled with more vendors, all there to sell no-longer needed toys, gifts,
athletic and musical equipment. They would keep the proceeds of their
individual sales, but the modest charge for the spaces would go toward the
sponsoring parent-teacher organization. Those funds, said group president, Michelle
Niemic, will be used toward items and projects needed or wanted by the pupils
there. ÒSometimes we contribute toward a program or a project, sometimes it
goes toward a field trip, or some special piece of equipment,Ó she said.
She went on to say that the group is not large, but active.
ÒMembers do what they can for whatever occasion theyÕre available. WeÕre always
looking for new members with good ideas and a little free time,Ó she said.
