East Brookfield Memorial Day observances

 

EAST BROOKFIELD - The Memorial Day observances for the town of East Brookfield will be held Monday, May 31.

A service will be held at the Podunk Cemetery, Podunk Road, beginning at 9:30 am.

The annual parade will start at 11 a.m. from the Memorial Town Complex, Connie Mack Drive, and proceed east on Main St. to Evergreen Cemetery, where a service will be held. The parade will then regroup and follow Main St. to Pleasant St. where closing ceremonies will be held at the VeteranÕs Memorial, Depot Square.

Ceremony participants include our guest speaker, 6th Worcester District State Rep. Geraldo Alicea. East Brookfield Elementary School students Jordan Gablaski and Mia Golden will recite the ÒGettysburg AddressÓ with Arianna Spencer and Madison Hatt reciting the poem ÒIn FlanderÕs FieldÓ. Local clergy participants are the Rev. Dr. Kevin P. Cross of the East Brookfield Baptist Church and Father George Charland of St. John the Baptist Church. Grand Marshal for this yearÕs parade is former U.S. Marine Corp Gysgt. John E. Rotchford.

The Memorial Day Committee invites all veterans, National Guard and community organizations to respectfully participate in the observances. Uniforms are not required, and vehicles will be provided for any veteran wishing to participate but unable to march in the parade.
