EAST BROOKFIELD - Mark
Carpentier, with the help of his wife, Sheryl, local Boy Scouts and other
committee members and volunteers, turned out on Saturday morning for a
springtime clean-up of the town.
When the Quaboag Current arrived, evidence of early morning activities was
easy to spot at various places around town. Larry and Susan Gordon had visited
the senior center, weeding, raking and planting up a storm.
A volunteer truck driver was
picking up trash and debris at various sites, and earnest diggers, pruners,
rakers and wheelbarrow trundlers were actively employed here and there on lawns
and street corners.
Outside the municipal
complex, members of Boy Scout Troop 238 were working with the Carpentiers,
scout leader Patrick Giguere and man about town Ted Boulay to beautify the
exterior of the building.
Nearby, as mom Amy Casey
watched, toddlers Idella, 2, and Jimmy, 3, ÒhelpedÓ with the effort, then
enjoyed a springtime swing at the playground nearby, adding a picture-perfect
touch to the Saturday scene.
In front of the building,
trays of flowers awaited planting, and a number of bicycles at rest awaited
their boy scout owners. ÒWeÕre planning a bike hike after we finish here,Ó one
of the boys said as he glanced up from his pile of weeds.
