EAST BROOKFIELD - East BrookfieldÕs Independence Day celebration will be held this year on Friday and Saturday, July 9 and 10.. This town traditionally pulls out all of the stops in its celebration of this holiday; also traditionally, the observance takes place after the real July 4th holiday.
According to Deb Morgan, Friends for the Community member, the committee plans for a bigger and better than ever two-day celebration. Additional information will be announced shortly, she said.
Also on that weekend, East BrookfieldÕs Quaboag Plantation 350th Committee is planning a road race, to be held on July 10. Those plans will also be announced in the near future, according to committee member Tim McNeaney.
The Quaboag 350th Committee is seeking East Brookfield gardeners to participate in the committeeÕs garden tour to be held on July 10 and 11. The tour will encompass all of the six towns in the Quaboag Plantation area, but so far, no East Brookfield gardeners have indicated an interest. Town residents who wish to show off their gardens are invited to call Deb Morrison at 508-867-3324.

Joan Bedard met with selectmen to discuss plans for the first band concert of the season, which will be held at the elementary school on July 1. Featured will be a U.S. Military band. Complete arrangements will be forthcoming next week. Bedard, who instigated a series of free concerts at the newly erected bandstand last summer, told selectmen Monday that she does not wish to be the person in charge of this yearÕs concert program, but that, having already obtained their approval, she has planned this initial concert. The board had previously offered to assist with arrangements Òin whatever way we can.Ó The concert will be a portion of this townÕs Quaboag 350th program, the selectmen agreed.
The board is moving forward with preparations for the highway department move from its present Stevens Road location to the recently acquired Verizon building on East Main St.
