NORTH BROOKFIELD - A barbeque and movie were a recent eveningÕs offerings at the North Brookfield Elementary School parking lot, with the proceeds going to the Fisher House Foundation.
Fisher House supports military families in time of need, providing a Òhome away from home,Ó enabling family members to visit a loved one at stressful times Ð during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.
Hannaford Market sent employees Diane Lincoln and Kevin Valeri to man the barbeque booth at the school. North BrookfieldÕs fire department brought the townÕs new truck for all to see and admire, while firemen sold raffle tickets for the 50/50 drawing. One could purchase an ÒarmÕs lengthÓ of tickets for $5.
The early eveningÕs fun started early, with hot dogs drawing hungry customers from 4:30 p.m. onward. At 6 p.m., the movie ÒSergeant YorkÓ was shown in the school auditorium.
According to Selectman Jason Petraitis, who chaired the event, approximately $1,000 was raised for Fisher House.
Sponsors included Hannaford Supermarkets, The North Brookfield Police Association, Fire Department and Emergency Management Agency, North Brookfield VFW Post 3439 and American Legion Post 41.
