BROOKFIELD Ð This townÕs
cultural council has announced a series of Friday evening concerts on the
common as a part of Quaboag PlantationÕs 350th anniversary
observance.
Each Friday evening in July,
there will be a concert, but also, as in past years, a baking contest and the
popular half-hour variety show prior to the 7 p.m. concert.
Visitors are invited to bring
a specified baked dessert to each concert. The desserts are sampled by what
Committee Chairman William Simpson describes as Òprofessional and discerning
judges,Ó and money prizes are awarded the entrants. The desserts are then sold
to those attending the concert; funds realized are used to defray expenses.
The ÒDoctorÕs Variety
Half-hourÓ is a much-anticipated and appreciated 30 minutes, according to
Simpson. ÒAnyone who wishes to perform may do so. We have the microphone and
sound system and a pretty good audience,Ó he said. ÒAnyone can be a star, just
be here when the fun starts.Ó
The schedule for concerts and
dessert categories are as follows:
July
9 - Class Reunion (60Õs-era classic rock music) Ð Cupcakes
July
15 Ð Borelli Big Band Ð Fruit Pies
July
23 Ð Heritage String Band Ð Gingersnaps w/350th
July
30th Ð Dave Pike / Squares
Concerts will be canceled in
case of rain.
