Women and girls in the area are invited to a special presentation at 7:15 p.m. Celia Daniels will portray ÒLucy Stone,Ó the famous champion for equal rights for women and leader in the fight to abolish slavery. Celia is an active member of the ÒBarre PlayersÓ Community Theater, and gives a powerful performance. In addition, there will be a Òfashion showÓ of period clothes, by anyone who wants to either wear the clothing or bring them to place on display. THE WEST BROOKFIELD SENIOR CENTER IS HOSTING A PANCAKE BREAKFAST AND FLEA MARKET The flea market spaces are $10 each and a few tables will be available at no extra cost. Brookfield Common from 9 a.m. Ð 3 p.m. Flea folk, antiquers, crafters and growers will all be there with a wide variety of wares and treasures. A grilled lunch and homemade sandwiches will be available from the church at their food booth and a baked-treats table will offer an abundance of goodies. Admission to the market is a donation of $1 for adults and childrens admission is free. Early birds will not be admitted.
EAST BROOKFIELD WILL BE HOSTING ITS THIRD BULK DAY OF THE YEAR AT THE RECYCLE CENTER on Stevens Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bulk items include anything that is too big for the blue trash bags. There is a $50 fee per pick-up truck load. A $10 fee will be charged for each mattress, box spring and upholstered furniture that is brought in. THE WEST BROOKFIELD ANNUAL FLEA MARKET ON THE COMMON IS SEEKING VENDORS for the market to be held from 9 am - 3 pm. Spaces (20 x 20) are available for $25. THE QUABBIN COMMUNITY BAND OPENS THEIR SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at 6 p.m., at the Harding Allen Bandstand, on the Barre Common with a festive FatherÕs Day program. The public is invited to continue the long standing tradition of enjoying wonderful music at sunset for free, with donations graciously accepted. The Quabbin Community Band always welcomes new members, rehearsals are every Monday evening in the Quabbin Regional High School Band room from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with concerts on Sundays throughout the summer. THE EAST BROOKFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNOUNCES SUMMER READING PROGRAM, ACTIVITIES Come to the library for a musical comedy for the whole family: ÒRecycled RhythmÓ with Vic & Sticks. Sign up begins Tuesday, June 22 at 6 p.m. This music show is fast paced and encourages audience participation, as the children become part of the Recycled Rhythm Band. THE WEST BROOKFIELD FARMERSÕ MARKET WILL BE OPEN The market will be open every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the common (west end).
LAKE WICKABOAG SWIMMING, FISHING AND BOATING WILL BE SUSPENDED DUE TO HERBICIDE TREATMENT The Lake Wickaboag Preservation Association, along with the West Brookfield Board of Health, has announced that on Wednesday, June 23, Lake Wickaboag will receive an herbicide application to treat nuisance aquatic vegetation. Lycott Environmental, the contractor hired by the board of health to apply the herbicide, has requested that swimming, fishing and boating in the lake be suspended for the June 23 underwater weed treatment. Also, lake water should not be used for livestock watering on June 23 and 24, direct drinking from July 23 to June 26, and irrigation from June 23 to June 28. Members of LWPA will notify boaters and swimmers by placing signs on streets leading to the lake and by placing red flag buoys on the lake. As part of their education program, they will also send a reminder to residents through the local cable access channel before the application begins.

AIR NATIONAL GUARD BAND TO HOLD FREE CONCERT on July 1 at 7 p.m. in the East Brookfield Elementary School auditorium. THE 11TH ANNUAL ÔMOLLYÕS RIDEÕ FOR CHILD SAFETY will be held at Hobbs Brook Plaza in Sturbridge on Sunday, June 27 rain or shine. ÒMollyÕs RideÓ attracts hundreds of participants and spectators. THE 14th ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS STATE HOUSE HOLIDAY CARD CONTEST HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED The contest is open to all citizens age 62 and over and this yearÕs theme is ÒDecember Holiday at the State HouseÓ. This competition is open to both amateur and professional artists. Three winning entries will be selected this year to be sold at the State House Gift Cart with artistÕs name printed on the card. All medium of art is acceptable (oil, watercolor, ink, pastels, etc.). The State House must be the focal point and dimensions can be no smaller than 5Ó x 7Ó and not larger that 18Ó x 24Ó. TANTASQUA CLASS OF 1980 TO HOLD 30-YEAR REUNION on Saturday, July 10 at the Sturbridge Host Hotel. All former teachers are invited to attend as well. The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with cocktails, a class photo will be taken at 6 p.m., and the buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. There will be a D.J. playing the sounds of the 70Õs and beyond. THE FIRST EVER SILVER BAT CLASSIC- ÒBase BallÓ as it was played 150 years ago in the Brookfields. This game of ÒBase BallÓ, recreating the famous game of 1865 between the North Brookfield and Brookfield Base Ball clubs, will celebrate the historic connection between baseball and the Brookfields on Saturday, July 10. The game will be played following the rules of the original ÒMassachusetts GameÓ on the historic North Brookfield Common (76th anniversary of Connie Mack Day). THE HEART TO HEART FOUNDATION WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL FUN DAY on July 24 with a rain date of July 25. This yearÕs event will include entertainment and fun for the entire family on the Common in North Brookfield. We are also holding a raffle to be drawn at 6 p.m. on the day of the event. Tickets are $10 each. Prizes are: 1st Place $500 in lottery tickets, 2nd Place $300 in lottery tickets, 3rd Place $200 in lottery tickets. Only 400 tickets will be sold. THE NBEMA GOLF TOURNAMENT WILL BE HELD AT QUAIL HOLLOW COUNTRY CLUB on Saturday, July 24. The cost per person to play in the tournament is $75 which as always, provides a very good meal of BBQ chicken and all the fixings, 18 holes of golf, and a cart. Hole sponsorships are $100 a hole. Our crew will be casting off each day at the Brookfield Congregational Church from July 26 - July 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Our hope is to provide another fun vacation Bible school adventure with music, recreation, crafts, snacks and of course, the study of GodÕs word. EAST BROOKFIELD BAPTIST CHURCH IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER OF SERVICE PROGRAM It will run from August 9 Ð 13. S.O.S. (Summer of Service) is a community outreach program of area churches based at the East Brookfield Baptist Church in East Brookfield. Adults and teens from area churches will fan out across our communities and perform various types of home improvement from painting to yard work. The program is designed to assist local residents in completing projects around their homes that they do not have the time or money to complete. THE HARDWICK FAIR WILL BE HELD ON THE WEEKEND OF AUG. 20 AND 21 on the town common in Hardwick. The Fair is a place where old-timers and newcomers gather to renew old friendships and acquaintances; many traveling great distances. It is a traditional Colonial-style country fair with an agricultural theme. The common has a variety of activities; many free and others inexpensive, bringing together a blend of old and new. It's a family event where children can enjoy themselves and so can their parents, without emptying their pockets. Check out the kids-only section, like the frog jumping competition. Other buildings around the common display art, photography, and crafts created by local folks. The Old Town Hall has displays of baked goods, flowers and vegetables, all competing for the illusive blue ribbon. The Fair culminates in an auction of all perishable exhibits, where even "Aunt Mable's Blue Ribbon-winning blueberry cake" goes to the highest bidder.

THE QUABOAG PLANTATION 350TH ANNIVERSARY PARADE will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010 in West Brookfield. The Brookfield division will lead the parade. The parade committee (for all six towns) has given us a deadline of April 15 for parade entries. THE QUABOAG 350TH COMMITTEE IS PLANNING THE LAWN MOWER/TRACTOR PARADE to be held on Saturday, October 2. This fun filled event will consist of a parade around the common, tractor races, tractor pulling, decorating themes and several events for children. This all day event will be bigger than ever and the committee is looking for people from the surrounding 350th Quaboag Plantation towns, who are also celebrating this historic event, to join in the planning and assisting in this event. THE QUABOAG HIGHLANDERS PIPES AND DRUMS OF MONSON ARE LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS beginners or experienced, in preparation for its 2010-2011 parade season. Rehearsals are every Tuesday night at the Daley Hall building in the Monson Developmental Center, located on State Avenue at the Palmer/Monson line. No fee necessary. The group meets every Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the children's room and includes free play for the kids and social time for the parents. West Brookfield Walks! every Tuesday. Meet us at the Merriam-Gilbert Library at 8:15 a.m. or the walking school us can pick you up on the way. BEDTIME SNACKS: A FAMILY STORY NIGHT the third Tuesday of each month from 7-7:30 p.m. in the ChildrenÕs Room at the Merriam-Gilbert Public Library. Each month a different beloved children's classic will be introduced.
