Lake Wickaboag to get algaecide treatment July 21

WEST BROOKFIELD - The Lake Wickaboag Preservation Association, along with the West Brookfield Board of Health, has announced that on Wednesday, July 21, Lake Wickaboag will receive a total lake algaecide application and spot herbicide application to treat nuisance aquatic vegetation.

Lycott Environmental, the contractor hired by the Board of Health to apply the algaecide treatment for algae and spot herbicide treatment for selected weed areas, has requested that swimming, fishing and boating in the lake be suspended for the July 21 underwater treatment. Also, lake water should not be used for livestock watering on July 21 and 22, direct drinking from July 21 to July 24, and irrigation from July 21 to July 26.

Members of LWPA will notify boaters and swimmers by placing signs on streets leading to the lake and by placing red flag buoys on the lake. As part of their education program, they will also send a reminder to residents through the local cable access channel before the application begins.
