The Quabbin Community Band will present THE QCB SWINGS!, with Guest Conductor Joseph Janack at 6 p.m., at the Harding Allen Bandstand, on the Barre Common. The public is invited to continue the long standing tradition of enjoying wonderful music at sunset for free, with donations graciously accepted. Rain location is the Barre Town Hall, also on the common. Refreshments including light dinners and snacks will be sold by Kim St. Denis. Quabbin Community Band always welcomes new members, rehearsals are every Monday evening in the Quabbin Regional High School Band room from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with concerts on Sundays throughout the summer. BÕWANA IGUANA REPTILE ADVENTURE July 30 at 3 p.m. presented by Gilbertville Public Library Summer Programs and sponsored in conjunction with The New Braintree/Hardwick Cultural Council. An exciting, interactive program that both entertains and educates people of all ages about the mysterious world of reptiles and amphibians. Owner Ray Ward is currently a member of the National Geographic Society and was the first president of the Rhode Island Herpetologcal Association. Ray has kept and successfully bred many types of reptiles since boyhood, which makes him very knowledgeable about reptiles as a whole.

 

CHICKEN BARBEQUE TO BENEFIT MICHAEL FINOCCHIO SR. ENDOWMENT FUND on Saturday, July 31 at the Knights of Columbus grounds, West Main Street, Ware. THE TWIG FAMILY IN THE OAK TREE Aug. 6 at 3 p.m. This original story by puppeteer Deborah Costine is about a family of imaginary twig people who live in an oak tree in harmony with nature. They share a tree with robins, a gray squirrel, and a tree frog. Gilbertville Public Library Summer Programs are sponsored in conjunction with The New Braintree/Hardwick Cultural Council.

 

SUMMER BLAST to benefit the Michael H. Deslauriers Scholarship will be held at the K of C pavilion on Saturday, Aug. 7 from 4-10 p.m., rain or shine.  Admission is $5 and children under the age of 12 are free. There will be clowns, face painting, raffles, games for young and old. Dennis Polisky's and  "The Maestro's Men" will be performing from 6-10 p.m. for your listening and dancing pleasure. Food and beverages will be available so please no byob or byof.  The scholarship is given out to a Ware resident who is furthering his or her education in music or fine arts.

 

The annual Polish picnic sponsored by Holy Cross Parish, Polish National Catholic Church, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 8 on parish grounds from noon to 5 p.m. As in past years, various booths with gifts to be won, filled baskets, baked goods, games, etc., will be featured. The kitchen with traditional Polish food will function all afternoon. At 4 p.m., the cash drawing will take place with Gerald and Theresa Skaza in charge. THE HARDWICK FAIR, the oldest fair in the United States, will be held all day on the weekend of Aug. 20 and 21 on the Town Common in Hardwick. The Hardwick Fair is a place where old-timers and newcomers gather to renew old friendships and acquaintances; many traveling great distances. It is a traditional colonial-syle country fair with an agricultural theme. The Common has a variety of activities; many free and others inexpensive, bringing together a blend of old and new. ItÕs a family event where children can enjoy themselves and so can their parents, without emptying their pockets.  Check out the Kids Only section, like the Frog Jumping Competition. Other buildings around the Common display art, photography, and crafts created by local folks. The Old Town Hall has displays of baked goods, flowers, and vegetables, all competing for the illusive Blue Ribbon. The Fair culminates in an auction of all perishable exhibits, where even ÒAunt MabelÕs Blue Ribbon-winning blueberry cakeÓ goes to the highest bidder.

WARE COMMUNITY CHURCH CELEBRATE RECOVERY MEETING for those who want freedom from life-controlling issues such as addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors, will be held every Friday night beginning April 2 at Ware Community Church, 8 South St., Ware.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  Celebrate Recovery is an adult-centered meeting.  No childcare services are offered at this time.
