Warren
Public Library offers summer reading activities
WARREN
- Children may sign up now at Warren Public LibraryÕs ÒGo Green Summer Reading
ProgramÓ. TheyÕre encouraged to read this summer about camping, nature,
conservation, endangered animals, gardening, summer sports, crafts and
mysteries. They can find books about raising animals, chasing butterflies,
building a tree house or a sand castle. There are puzzles and game
hand-out sheets, and prizes for each child who reads at least five books.
Children may submit pictures (photos or drawings) of their favorite summer
activity. A puppet show is scheduled for Aug. 4 at 2 p.m., funded in
part by a grant from the Warren Cultural Council, a local agency which is
supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Commission. The Warren Public Library
is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 1:30 to
5:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The program is free.
Parents will be pleased to know that when their children read all summer, not
only do they get more enjoyment out of their vacation, but they maintain their
reading ability and keep themselves ready to resume school in the fall without
loss of skills. Vocabulary and comprehension scores usually show an
increase after a summer of reading, also.
